I made the mistake of watching the local news last night...living in the Dallas area this included the storm report and eleven minutes of Ebola updates before the next story which was the latest Chase Bank hacking. It doesn't matter where in the country you live, likely your local news was as depressing as mine.
This morning, I scrolled through my Facebook newsfeed. The level of fear and anxiety people are living in became all too apparent. The threat of continued spread of a horrible disease, family or close friends needing prayers for recovery of one ailment or another, the cursing at expensive storm damage...and on and on.
As I take all of this information in I begin to think, "why wouldn't everyone be afraid and uptight about what might happen tomorrow (or today, for that matter)?!"
Here's the thing though...we have a choice every day, every hour, every moment how we will respond to what is going on around us. So, while it is important to stay informed, having perspective is also essential.
As is having faith.
My faith provides me realization I have very little control over my circumstances or over those closest to my heart. Which doesn't mean I can just give up, or not try my best, or say my future doesn't matter because I have no authority anyway...what it does do is give me the freedom to live my life knowing that no matter what circumstances come along I will be able to handle them.
This song is a current favorite of mine and I thought I'd share something positive today, at least on my own Facebook page, to help counter some of the negative in the world.
HAPPY Friday Everyone! Go out into the world and love like your not scared, give when it's not fair, live life for another, take time for a brother...fix your eyes!
