Two words…YOU SUCK!
Now that may seem a bit strong Summer, but you’ve got it coming!
You tantalize me with your sun, warm temps, promises of endless lazy days by the pool, when really all you are good for is prompting me to become a complete raving mommy #@$*!!
I feel as if I am the only mother on Earth who hates to see you arrive and the school year end. Honestly Summer, if it were up to me we would have year-round school with several shorter breaks between chunks of class days. Then I would never have to face ELEVEN WEEKS of wondering what the hell to do with my kids.
Not that I wonder long, mind you. As they say in Texas Summer, “this ain’t my first rodeo”. I am experienced enough to know that by April I have to have my camp “research” done and have completed my annual fight with my husband over how much you are going to cost him.
There are indeed many choices for camp here in the Metroplex, everything from tennis to taekwondo, ballet to billiards, soccer to sewing American Girl Doll clothing. For a price, of course.
And when you have three kids to entertain for almost three months Summer, the price is pretty dang high!
I know you think I should just use this time to “relax, let them entertain themselves”…but, left to their own devices this is what I would see from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. 24/7:
Summer, it is enough to drive me I-N-S-A-N-E!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My kids think the final school bell of the year essentially gives them an 3-month pass to stare at a screen!
The only way I have found to combat this “seasonal syndrome” Summer is to sign them up for like a million dollars worth of structured activities. And then I drive myself crazy trying to get them to and from each event.
Every week is a different story, each kid has a different camp and destination. Oh I try to be practical and put them in things together, but that only works 10% of the time.
On top of that, I now have my own work schedule to maneuver around!
Keeping my sanity for the next SEVENTY-SIX DAYS will be a challenge. But, I’ve done it before and I’ll do it again. You will not cause me to mentally break down Summer!
Somehow I will keep my everyday to keep my frustration in check, and focus on the positive like:
Sunday pool time and dinner on the patio with family is always a highlight Summer. And I will look forward to a much needed rest mid-season, the best way to gear up for the most dreaded month of the year…AUGUST!
